Learning is Fun

Image
Pic credits: Sampada Deshpande   My first stint at doing community work or an internship-kind of work was when I was in my PG first semester. I got this exciting yet challenging offer from an amazing organisation Headstreams  to teach 'underprivileged children' but only via play. I still remember sitting Friday evenings and learning nursery rhymes and their actions from the web (mind you I was staying in a 'rented flat of cool boys'). Those children from my internship (fancily named Tackle Caravan which is a Saturday fun camp) would definitely now be old enough to cast a vote, would they remember the songs and rhymes that I have taught them? Another famous contribution of mine was the famous banana song which was a cool number among my 'affluent collegemates' and the children at the caravan. This song kind of became the anthem that marked the start and the windup of the weekly caravan. Thus earning me one of my nicknames or in fact a prestigious title that the c...

Orderly and Chaos

Pic credits: Aadrita Borah Upon reading my friend's Whatsapp status I discovered an interesting quote from Rumi -       Body is a guesthouse       each morning someone new arrives.       Welcome them all for they may be      messengers from the invisible.    Seems like the guest today visiting me is 'lust' and 'illusion of control'. But how is this possible because my body still has the enigma of the Holy Eucharist I received yesterday (Denaha).  I remember looking up to the gracious face in the icon and promising "I want to lead a gracious life in Thy altar forever". Rumi says sorrow can sweep the house of your heart clean. But here seems like a clean and contrite heart is immediately occupied by the evil that has been leaving. This reminds me of the reply given to Pharisees who (always) wanted a sign to believe.        43“When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes ...

Buddha Dhamma Sangha

Image
Pic credits:Sampada Deshpande Buddham saranam gacchami I go to the Buddha(wisdom) for refuge. Dhammam saranam gacchami I go to the Dhamma(Here & Now) for refuge Sangham saranam gacchami I go to the Sangha (Community) for refuge. Taking timeout for myself is different from living a secret life. Truth is always in the light; it never fades or taints unmindful of the trials it faces. Truth = Light = Energy. The darkness and weakness within can only be wiped out by truth and light. How can I do it? Committing myself to be truthful, relishing the grace of the present, and submitting myself to the people around me. To fall ≠ end. It is always encouraging to have helping hands to lift me when I fall, but equally important is my willingness to get up after I fall. May the Divine Peace be with us all. GURU

Image
Pic credits: Sampada Deshpande Guru the creator, Preserver of the creation Extols love of selfless revelation. Crescending expeditions through genres of erudition Together we fly, carrying me on thy rendition. How a scowl and frowning brow Turns to a smile of joyous will. Greatest meed indeed though know To see a novice master the skill. For the world loves forth the thickest blood And you O sage like The Son of Man! No mortal Flesh has a flawless hood But you belong to the chivalrous clan. This ain’t a song of mortal praise; But ought to be a humble truth and grace. Though I conquer tribes of nation,                Thou art... My Guru the creator, Preserver of the creation. (An expression of gratitude and content for every soul that has enlightened me.) Commiseration...

Image
Pic credits: Sampada Deshpande I saw a sigh of joy in her eye, But couldn’t rejoice nor could she cry. Gloomy hordes surrounding her attention, Stood she in commiseration. Committed to win were her spurting efforts, Fortune did not deny her share of success. Charming little smirk says it all, Those edgily restless nights et al. Appeased was her crave for the apogee, Shield her charm O Almighty. Amidst a crowd of bemoaning failure, Stood she as a ray of consoling cheer. No grief of ours could strain prolong, As her verse triumphed our mournful song. Our hearts now pulsed to the similar tune, Victory and defeat now had the same rune. For the fruit of labour is sweet said she Aphorism now was soothing to me. Gloomy hordes surrounding her attention, Stood she in commiseration.                     Dedicated to a dear friend...                           ...

Lehari

Image
Pic credits: Sampada Deshpande Several desires fill in my mind, but bliss I couldn’t find. Melancholy filled and erroneous thought laying unrest upon the cot. Drops of wine alas need thee; said Mephistopheles to me. Bestowing further towering exhilaration, I saw Helen who carnaged the nations. Laying more the elements of ecstasy he showed me intoxication, orgasm and legacy. Then the roar and the triumphant arrival I saw Taxiarch  Michael . Bewildering my conscience    he too pillared; the muddled enigma – the pleasure of the world Then pushed me from joyride zenith     to a nadir, unveiling truth and fatigue. Now I ask u, o friend of mine, how could I find pleasure undying? Several desires filled in my mind but bliss I couldn’t find.                  In search of Lehari...
